The Dirichlet boundary/initial-value problem for the system of two partial differential equations for thermo-visco-elasticity, i.e.~\(u_{tt}=(\sigma(u_x)+A\theta+\gamma u_{xt})_x\) and \(\theta_t=\kappa\theta_{xx}+\gamma u_{xt}^2+A\theta u_{xt}\), where the indices denote the partial derivatives, is considered as a simple, 1-dimensional, but thermodynamically consistent model for anisothermal martensitic phase transformation in shape-memory alloys; \(\theta=\theta(t,x)\) is the temperature and \(u=u(t,x)\) is the displacement, while \(\sigma\) is a non-monotone function (i.e.~the elastic part of the stress) with a double-well potential (= a stored energy) corresponding to two phases (here austenite and martensite). Various computational simulations are presented, together with a discussion of influence of various parameters in the model. This extends the previous isothermal simulation in \textit{A. Vainchtein} and \textit{P. Rosakis} [J. Nonlinear Sci. 9, 697--719 (1999; Zbl 0989.74054)], which can be obtained in the limit for infinitesimally slow processes. The hysteresis loop in the stress/strain diagram is then fully determined by the stored energy, which is, however, not always in a full correspondence with real martensitic transformation, as mentioned in [\textit{K. R. Rajagopal} and \textit{T. Roubíček}, Nonlinear Anal., Real World Appl. 4, 581--597 (2003; Zbl 1023.74036)].
