Wiener has proved that an integrable function on the circle which is square-integrable near the identity and has nonnegative Fourier coefficients is square integrable on the circle. The latest extension to locally compact abelian groups \(G\) was obtained by \textit{J. J. F. Fournier} [TĂ´hoku Math. J. 49, 115-131 (1997; Zbl 0878.42006)], who introduced amalgam spaces and considered the following property. We say that \(G\) has property \((*)_p\) if for every relatively compact neighborhood \(U\) of \(e\) there exists a constant \(C_U\) such that for all locally integrable positive definite functions \(f\) on \(G\) and all \(x\in G\) \[ \|f\chi_{xU}\|_p\leq C_U\|f\chi_U\|_p, \] where \(\chi_U\) is the characteristic function of \(U\). In this paper M. Leinert extends his result to all \text{ IN}-groups \(G\), i.e., locally compact groups with at least one invariant relatively compact neighbourhood. Let \(1<p\leq\infty\). Then \(G\) has property \((*)_p\) if and only if \(p\) is an even integer or \(p=\infty\). The author also proves that the \(ax+b\)-group does not have property \((*)_p\) for any \(0<p<\infty\).
