The authors analyse the long-time behaviour of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the 1D focusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. They obtain polynomial growth-type upper bounds on the Sobolev \(H^s\) norms with \(0< s< 1\), as well as limit any orbital \(H^s\) instability of the ground state to polynomial growth at worst. Generalization to other Schrödinger equations is discussed.
