The authors of this interesting paper study the periodic boundary value problem (PBVP) for first-order impulsive differential equations with supremum. The problem under consideration has the form \[ x'(t)= f(t, x(t),\;\sup_{s\in [t-h,t]} x(s)),\;t\neq t_k,\;t\in [0,T],\quad \Delta x(t_k)= I_k(x(t_k)),\quad k= 1,2,\dots, p, \] \[ x(t)= x(0),\quad t\in [-h,0],\quad x(0)= x(T), \] where \(f{\i}C([0, T]\times \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}, \mathbb{R})\), \(I_k\in C(\mathbb{R}, \mathbb{R})\), \(\Delta x(t_k)= x(t^+_k)- x(t_k)\), \(k= 1,2,\dots, p\), \(h\) and \(T\) are positive constants, \(0< t_1< t_2<\cdots< t_k<\cdots< t_p< T\) are fixed points. The method of upper and lower solutions coupled with the monotone iterative technique has been widely used in the treatment of nonlinear differential equations, which can be seen in G. S. Ladde, V. Lakshmikantham, A. S. Vatsala (1985), G. S. Ladde, S. Sathanantham (1991), S. G. Hristova, D. D. Bainov (1991, 1993, 1996), etc. The basic idea of this method is that, using the upper and lower solutions as an initial iteration, one can construct monotone sequences from a corresponding linear equation, and these sequences converge monotonically to the maximal and minimal solutions to the nonlinear equation. In case the method is applied to impulsive differential equations, then one has to use a suitable impulsive differential inequality as a comparison principle. The authors discuss the existence and uniqueness of the solutions to a linear PBVP for impulsive differential equations with supremum. Moreover, an existence theorem on external solutions to PBVPs is obtained by use of the monotone iterative technique and the method of upper and lower solutions.
