The author completely solves the equations \(2^N\pm 2^M\pm 2^L=z^2\), which can easily be reduced to the two cases \(2^n\pm 2^m\pm 1=z^2\) and \(2^n\pm 2^m\pm 2 =z^2\). This problem was posed by R. Tijdeman. In the second case, the solution is rather simple, as well as for the subcase \(2^n\pm 2^m-1=z^2\). But the solution of the particular case \(2^n+2^m+1=z^2\) is based on some deep results of F. Beukers (1981) and needs a detailed study.
