If \(C\) is a chain with a least element then the interval algebra \(B(C)\) is the subalgebra of the power set of \(C\) generated by the intervals of the form \([a,b[\), where \(a\in C\), \(b\in C\cup \{ \infty \} \), and \(a<b\). For any \(a\in B(C)\) there exists a unique decomposition into the union of disjoint intervals. The number of such intervals is called the length of \(a\). In the paper under review the lengths of the unions of families of pairwise disjoint elements of an interval algebra are described.
