The scalar boundary value problem \[ x'(t)= F(u)(t),\quad x(a)= h(x),\tag{1} \] is considered. Here, \(F: C^0([a, b])\to L_1([a, b])\) is a continuous operator satisfying the local Carathéodory conditions (i.e., for each \(r> 0\) there exists \(q_r\in L_1([a, b])\) such that \(|F(x)(t)|\leq q_r(t)\) for a.e. \(t\in [a,b]\) and each \(\|x\|\leq r\)) and \(h: C^0([a, b])\to \mathbb{R}\) is a continuous functional. The authors give sufficient conditions for solvability and unique solvability of problem (1). The optimality of the conditions is demonstrated on examples.
