This paper presents an adaptive output feedback control algorithm that assures boundedness of all closed-loop signals, arbitrarily improved transient performance of the tracking error, and asymptotically vanishing tracking error when parameter time derivatives are \(L^1\) signals and disturbances are \(L^2\) signals. The assumptions are: single-input, single-output linear time-varying systems with uncertainty that are affected by unknown bounded additive disturbances. The time-varying parameters are taken to be smooth and bounded (but are not required to be sufficiently slow or to have known bounds). The output is the only measured variable, and it is required to track a given smooth bounded reference trajectory. The undisturbed system is assumed to be minimum phase and to have a known constant degree, a known sign of the high frequency gain, and a known upper bound on the system order.
