Let \(\underline{K}\) be a compact subset of \(\underline{B}\), an open ball in a space of \(N\) real dimensions, and \(s(n)\) \((n \geq 1)\) be Möbius transformations such that \(s(n|\underline{B})\subset \underline{B} \) and \(s(n|\infty)\in \underline{K}\). Then \(s(1|s(2|\ldots))\) converges uniformly on \(\underline{B}\) to a point in the closure of \(\underline{B}\). This result extends to general values of \(N\) a result holding for \(N=2\) in [\textit{K. L. Hillam} and \textit{W. J. Thron}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 16, 1256-1262 (1965; Zbl 0136.37501)] which itself includes a classical convergence criterion of Pringsheim (involving conditions of the form \(|b(n)|\geq|a(n)|+1\) for the partial denominators and numerators of a continued fraction).
