Let \(K/F\) be a finite, unramified extension of \(p\)-adic fields. Call a representation of \(\text{GL}_p(F)\) or \(\text{GL}_p(K)\) \textit{totally ramified} if it is not equivalent to any twist by a nontrivial, unramified character. Then the base change lift of a totally ramified supercuspidal representation of \(\text{GL}_p(F)\) is a totally ramified supercuspidal representation of \(\text{GL}_p(K)\). The aim of the present paper is to make this lifting explicit. Indeed, the description of such representations by \textit{P. Kutzko} and \textit{A. Moy} [Ann. Math. (2) 121, 495--517 (1985; Zbl 0609.12017)] suggests a lifting, and this lifting turns out to coincide with base change (after a slight adjustment when \(p=2\)). The main result is a special case of earlier results by the authors [Local tame lifting for \(\text{GL}(n)\). II: Wildly ramified supercuspidals. Astérisque 254. Paris: SMF (1999; Zbl 0920.11079)], and can also be derived by combining work of \textit{C. Mœglin} [J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 69, No. 2, 175--226 (1990; Zbl 0711.11045)] and the local Langlands correspondence. However, the methods this time around are simpler, and the authors hope that they will generalize to the case of \(\text{GL}_{p^m}(F)\).
