It is well-known that an interval function \(f: I(\mathbb{R})^n\to I(\mathbb{R})^n\), defined by \(f(x)= Ax+ b\), \(A\in I(\mathbb{R})^{n+n}\), \(b\in I(\mathbb{R})^n\) has a uniquely defined fixed point iff the spectral radius \(\varrho(|A|)\) is less than 1, cf. \textit{O. Mayer} [Über die in der Intervallrechnung auftretenden Räume und einige Anwendungen, Ph.D. Thesis, Universität Karlsruhe (1968)]. The paper investigates now the behaviour of fixed points of \(f\) if \(\varrho(|A|)\geq 1\) and especially the case where \(|A|\) is irreducible. Some connections of the fixed points with solutions of the system of linear interval equations \((I-A)x= b\) are discussed.
