    The author gives the following: If \(T\) is an operator from \(L^r(\mathbb R^n)\) to \(L^r(\mathbb R^n)\) for some \(1<r<\infty\), which commutes with translations and such that \(T(f)=\| U(f)\| _F\), \(U\) is a bounded operator from \(L^r(\mathbb R^n)\) to \(L^r(\mathbb R^n, F)\) for some Banach space \(F\) and \(U(f)(x)=\int_{\mathbb R^n}K(x-y)f(y)\,dy\) for \(f\in C_{\text{comp}}(\mathbb R^n)\) and \(x\neq {\text{supp}}\,f\) for a \(F\)-valued kernel function \(K(x)\) satisfying the Hörmander condition \(\sup_{y\neq0}\int_{| x| >2| y| }\| K(x-y)-K(x)\| _F \,dx<\infty\), then \(T\) satisfies the following two properties: (i) for \(1<p<\infty\), \(T\) is bounded on the Sobolev space \(H_p^1(\mathbb R^n)\), and \(| \partial _kT(f)| \leq T(\partial _kf)\), for all \(f\in H_p^1(\mathbb R^n)\) and \(k=1,\ldots, n\); (ii) for all \(0<s<1\) and \(1<p, q<\infty\), \(T\) is bounded on the Triebel-Lizorkin space \(F_{p,q}^s(\mathbb R^n)\). The Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is one of such operators, and so this is an extension of Kinnunen's result on \(H_p^1(\mathbb R^n)\). For \(s>1+1/p\) \((1<p<\infty)\), the author gives an example such that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is not bounded on \(F_{p,q}^s(\mathbb R^n)\) for \(1<q<\infty\).
