For a differential equation \[ \begin{aligned} \dot{y}&= f(t,y(t),y(t-\tau),u(t),u(t-\sigma),p),\quad t\in[0,T]\\ y(t)&= \psi(t,p),\quad t\in[-\tau,0],\;y(0)=y_0,\\ u(t)&= \Phi(t),\quad t\in[-\sigma,0),\;u(0)=u_0, \end{aligned} \] the sensitivity functions of a solution with respect to perturbations of parameters are constructed by variational and direct approaches. Reviewer's remarks: Theorem 1 can be proved simply; for this it is sufficient to make use of Cauchy's formula [see \textit{G. Kharatishvili, T. Tadumadze}, and \textit{N. Gorgodze}, Mem. Differ. Equ. Math. Phys. 19, 3-105 (2000; Zbl 0965.34066)].
