The problem of minimization of a functional that can be expressed as the sum of a convex quadratic and a convex continuous function is considered. The authors reduce the problem into finding a saddle point of an appropriate extended (augmented) Lagrange function and suggest an iterative method for solving the latter. An application to variational inequalities is given.
