For spaces \(X_\alpha\), \(\alpha\in A\), and base point \(x^*=\langle x^*_\alpha\rangle\), the subspace \(\{\langle x_\alpha\rangle\in\prod X_\alpha\mid x_\alpha\not= x^*_\alpha\) for only finitely many \(\alpha\in A\}\) is a \(\sigma\)-product while any product of the form \(\prod_{\beta\in B}X_\beta\times\{\langle x^*_\alpha\rangle_{\alpha\in A-B}\}\) is a finite subproduct if \(B\) is a finite subset of \(A\). The main theorems show that for any given \(\sigma\)-product, if each finite subproduct is subparacompact (respectively submetacompact) then so is the \(\sigma\)-subproduct.
