Consider the following degenerate parabolic equation \[ \partial_t g(u)-\Delta b(u) +\text{div} \phi(u)=f\quad \text{ in } (0,T)\times\Omega, \] subject to boundary condition \(b(u)=0\) on \((0,T)\times\partial\Omega\) and initial condition \(g(u)=g_0\) at \(\{0\}\times\Omega\), where \(\Omega\) is a bounded open set in \(\mathbb R^N\) with Lipschitz boundary, \(g,b:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R\) are continuous and nondecreasing functions, and \(\phi:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R^N\) is continuous. Moreover, \(\phi\) is assumed to be controlled by \(g\) and \(b\) in certain fashion. The author is concerned with two notions of solution, proves that a weak solution is an entropy solution, and deduces some consequences on the solutions. Among them, a comparison theorem for weak solutions is derived.
