The author considers the nonlinear wave equation of the form \[ u_{tt}-\Delta u+\rho(x,u_t)+\beta(x,u)=f(x,t),\quad \text{in }\Omega\times \mathbb{R}^+ (\mathbb{R}),\tag{1} \] with the boundary condition \(u|_{\partial \Omega}=0\), where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(\rho(x,v)\) is a function of the form \(\rho(x,v)=a(x)g(v)\) with \(a(x)\geq 0\) and \(g^\prime (v)\geq 0\). The first aim of this paper is to prove global existence and decay for the problem (1) with the initial condition: \[ u(x,0)=0,\quad u_t(x,0)=u_1(x),\tag{2} \] and \(\beta(x,u)\) satisfying \(|\beta(x,u)|\leq k_1|u|^{\alpha+1}.\) The second aim of this paper is to show the existence of a \(T\)-periodic solution of problem (1) in \(\Omega\times \mathbb{R}\) when the forcing term \(f(x,t)\) is \(T\) periodic. Note that in this paper, \(a(x)\) is assumed to be positive only in a neighborhood of a part of the boundary \(\partial\Omega\) and the stability property is very delicate which makes the problem interesting.
