Two-dimensional real division algebras revisited (Q1875897)

The authors provide a new classification of two-dimensional real division algebras into one of four classes along with an historical survey of previous classifications. They also obtain as a corollary a new classification of commutative real division algebras into one of three classes. Rather than working with structure constants and multiplication tables they use a more intrinsic approach specializing the second author's general classification theory [\textit{H. P. Petersson}, Result. Math. 37, No. 1--2, 120--154 (2000; Zbl 0956.17002)].
