This paper gives a formula for the number \(n_d^{(1)}(\mu)\) of one-nodal rational curves of degree \(d\) in the complex projective space of dimension \(n\geq 3\), which pass through a collection of linear subspaces \(\mu_1,\ldots, \mu_N\). This number coincides with the number \(n_{1,d}(\mu)\) of genus-\(1\) degree \(d\) curves which pass through the linear subspaces \(\mu_i\), and have a fixed generic complex structure on the normalization. Such numbers are partially computed in \textit{E. Ionel}, [Duke Math. J. 94, No. 2, 279--324 (1998; Zbl 0974.14038)]. Using the compactification of the moduli space of genus-\(1\) curves, and the fact that the nodal rational curves are in the boundary, the Gromov-Witten invariant [see \textit{Y. Ruan} and \textit{G. Tian}, J. Differ. Geom. 42, No. 2, 259--367 (1995; Zbl 0860.58005)] of degree \(d\) genus-\(1\) curves of the projective space is computed to equal \(n_d^{(1)}(\mu)\) plus a sum of contributions coming from terms involving chains of rational curves. Both the Gromov-Witten invariants, and the contributions from the chains of rational curves, are computable in terms of the numbers \(n_d(\mu)\) of degree \(d\) rational curves which pass through \(\mu_i\) (i.e., some genus-\(0\) Gromov-Witten invariants).
