The notion of an approximate indicator for a subgroup \(H\) of a locally compact group \(G\) is presented to investigate biflatness of \(G\). A bounded net \((f_\alpha)_\alpha\) in \(B(G)\), the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra of \(G\), is called an approximate indicator for \(H\) if \(\lim_\alpha f(f-\alpha |_H)=f\) for all \(f\in A(H)\), the Fourier algebra of \(H\), and if \(\lim_\alpha gf_\alpha=0\) for all \(g\in I(H):= \{f\in A(G):f|_H=0\}\). An algebra \({\mathfrak A}\) which is also an operator space is said to be a quantized Banach algebra if the multiplication is a completely bounded bilinear map, it is called operator biflat if it is a flat quantized \({\mathfrak A}\)-bimodule, and \(G\) is biflat if \(A(G)\) is operator biflat. Starting point is the fact that \(G\) is biflat if the diagonal \(G_\Delta\) in \(G\times G\) has an approximate indicator. Conditions for the existence of approximate indicators in various situations are established such as \(\chi_H\in B(G_d)\), where \(G_d\) denotes the group \(G\) equipped with the discrete topology. For \(G=SL(3,\mathbb{G})\) it is shown that \(G_\Delta\) does not have an approximate indicator.
