Consider a finitely ramified fractal possessing a ``Laplacian''. Approximate the fractal by a sequence of increasingly refined ``grids''. On these grids the Laplacian defines a unique sequence of discrete energies which increases to the continuous energy, the bilinear form defined by the Laplacian. Now choose an irreducible energy on the grid of generation \(0\), copy it into the refined grids and scale in the same way as the unique sequence. The author proves two types of convergence of energies: Firstly, for all functions with finite, continuous energy (pointwise convergence), and, secondly, \(\Gamma\)-convergence. The two limits may be different due to their additivity properties.
