The paper discusses the application of active shielding of a rotational symmetric induction heater. Maxwell's equation leads to second order boundary value problem which is formulated in cylindric coordinates. For the positioning of compensation coils used in active shielding an identification problem is mentioned. Numerical experiments illustrate the effect of combined active and passive shielding.
