The employed physical model for one dimensional pyrolysis of charring solids consists in the conservation of energy for both the char layer and the virgin material. The char layer and the virgin material are coupled with each other by the pyrolysis front which is assumed to be infinitely thin. The temperature of the pyrolysis front is assumed a material property. The finite volume technique is applied to solution of the moving boundary problem with using either uniform or non-uniform mesh. The non-uniform grid is preferred above the uniform one. For comparison, the authors apply also the integral model with quadratic temperature profile in the char and virgin layer. Integral models are not always capable of giving correct or realistic results especially in case of sudden changes in the boundary conditions.
