The author proves the following theorem, which shows the equivalence between questions posed by Pasynkov and Uspenskij, respectively. Theorem 1.4. Let \(f:X \to Y\) be a map between compacta. Then \(f\) admits approximations by \(k\)-dimensional maps if there exists a map \(g:X \to I^k\) such that \(\dim( f\triangle g)\leq 0\). In some special cases he also proves their questions affirmatively e.g. Theorem 1.2. \(k\)-dimensional maps between compacta admit approximations by \((k+1)\)-dimensional simplical maps. Theorem 1.3. \(k\)-dimensional maps of Bing compacta (i.e. compacta with each component hereditarily indecomposable) admit approximations by \(k\)-dimensional simplical maps.
