The authors consider an abstract version of a one-dimensional heat equation with nonhomogeneous and dynamic boundary conditions. The problem whether it gives rise to a strongly continuous semigroup of linear operators in a suitable product space is first considered and sketched. If this happens, conditions are found ensuring that the system is ``approximately boundary controllable''. This means, roughly speaking, that the reachability space, that is, the set of space states which are obtainable at some time for suitable values of the boundary control, is dense in the basic space. The authors apply their abstract results to a one-dimensional heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions.
