A monomial curve is a curve defined in the affine space \(\mathbb A^n\) by parametric equations \((t^{s_1}, \dots, t^{s_n})\), with gcd\((s_i)=1\). Such a curve determines the semigroup \(S\) in \(\mathbb N\) generated by the \(s_i\)'s. The authors are mainly interested in the case \(n=3\), i.e. monomial curves in the affine \(3\)-space. As the ideals of these curves are generated by \(2\) or \(3\) binomials, they have the hull resolution introduced by Bayer and Sturmfels for binomial ideals. The hull resolution is not minimal for general ideals, and the authors study its minimality for monomial curves in \(\mathbb A^3\). They find a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of the semigroup \(S\): The hull resolution is minimal if and only if \(S\) is either non-symmetric or symmetric, with \(\alpha_is_j=\alpha_js_i\) and there exists \(\gamma_{ki} = \gamma_{kj}\) with \(\alpha_ks_k=\gamma_{ki}s_i+\gamma_{kj}s_j\) for some \(\{i,j,k\}=\{1,2,3\}.\)
