Let \((p_n)\) and \((q_n)\) be nonnegative sequences with \(p_0,q_0>0\). For \(\alpha \in \mathbb R\) denote \(p^\alpha_n:=\sum^n_{k=0}c^\alpha_{n-k}p_k\) \((n\in \mathbb N_0)\), where \(c^\alpha_n\) is either (A) \(\binom{n+\alpha-1}{n}\) (binomial coefficient) or (B) \(\alpha^n/n!\). The generalized Nörlund summability method \(N_\alpha=(N,p^\alpha_n,q_n)\) is defined by the transformation \[ t^\alpha_n:=\frac{1}{r^\alpha_n}\sum^n_{k=0}p^\alpha_{n-k}q_ks_k \quad (n\in \mathbb N_0), \] where \(r^\alpha_n:=(p^\alpha*q)_n:=\sum^n_{k=0}p^\alpha_{n-k}q_k\). There exists some \(\alpha_0\in \mathbb R\) such that \(r^\alpha_n>0\) for all \(n\in \mathbb N_0\) and \(\alpha>\alpha_0\). In case (A), the family \((N_\alpha)_{\alpha>\alpha_0}\) is said to be of Cesàro type, in case (B) of Euler-Knopp type. The authors comparise speeds of summability in the familiy \((N_\alpha)_{\alpha>\alpha_0}\). Theorem 1: Let \((\lambda_n)\) be a positive sequence with \(\lambda_n\to\infty\) and let \(\beta\geq \gamma>\alpha_0\). (a) Then for sequences \((s_n)\) and numbers \(s\in \mathbb C\) we have \[ \lambda_n(t^\gamma_n-s)=O(1)\Rightarrow \lambda^\beta_n(t^\beta_n-s)=O(1), \] where \(\lambda^\beta_n=r^\beta_n/b^\beta_n\) with \(b^\beta_n:=(c^{\beta-\gamma}*b^\gamma)_n\) and \(b^\gamma_n:=r^\gamma_n/\lambda_n\) (the authors note that \(\lambda^\beta_n\leq \lambda_n\) \((n\in \mathbb N)\) if \((\lambda_n)\) is nondecreasing (Proposition 2)). (b) For some \(t\in \mathbb C \), \(\lambda_n(t^\gamma_n-s)\to t\Rightarrow \lambda^\beta_n(t^\beta_n-s)\to t\), in case (A) provided that \(\sum^\infty_{k=0}b^\gamma_k=\infty\). For families \((N_\alpha)_{\alpha>\alpha_0}\) of Cesàro type, the following Tauberian remainder theorem is proved (Theorem 2): Suppose \(nb^\gamma_n=O(\sum^n_{k=0}b^\gamma_k)\) and \(\beta>\delta>\gamma>\alpha_0\). Then \(\lambda^\beta_n(t^\beta_n-s)\to t\) and \(\lambda_n(t^\gamma_n-s)=O(1)\) imply \(\lambda^\delta_n(t^\delta_n-s)\to t\). Analogous results for families of power series methods \(J_q\) and \(J^*_q\) are also proved.
