Equivariant framings, lens spaces and contact structures. (Q1880007)

Based on the fact that the tangent bundle of an orientable 3-manifold is trivialisable, the author considers the invariant called the equivariant framing. Using this simple invariant, the author can tell whether an oriented 3-manifold has no universally tight contact structures. In particular, this gives another proof of Gompf's result that the Poincaré homology sphere with the opposite orientation does not have a universally tight positive contact structure.
