The main goal of the interesting paper under review is to show that the fundamental solution to the Schrödinger equation on a \(d\)-dimensional sphere has an explicit description at times which are rational multiples of \(\pi\) (\(t\in \pi \mathbb Q\)). Precisely, let \(\Delta\) be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the \(d\)-dimensional sphere \(S^d\) with its standard metric. The fundamental solution to the Schrödinger equation \[ i {{\partial u}\over{\partial t}}=\Delta u,\quad u(0,x)=\delta_p(x) \] is a distribution on \({\mathbb R}\times S^d\) whose singular support is all of \({\mathbb R}\times S^d.\) In case \(t\in \pi \mathbb Q,\) however, the author expresses \(e^{-it\Delta}\) in terms of solution operators to a wave equation which implies precise account of the \(L^p\)-Sobolev mapping properties of \(e^{-it\Delta}\) through sharp \(L^p\) estimates. Extensions of the results are also proposed for Schrödinger operators plus potential on Zoll manifolds (Riemannian manifolds on which all geodesics have minimal period \(2\pi\)).
