Compatible discrete series. (Q1880106)

This paper constitutes a complement and enlargement of an article by \textit{B. Kostant} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 1998, No. 5, 225--252 (1998; Zbl 0896.17002)] on three important topics, namely the discrete series, combinatorics of affine Weyl groups and abelian ideals in Borel subalgebras. Detailed proofs for the results presented in Kostant's work are given, and they are generalized to the case of ad-nilpotent ideals.
