Modeling of capacitated transportation systems for integral scheduling (Q1880321)

The paper starts with an introduction to the transportation problem in which the capacity constraints are presented. The motivation for the research was a planned automated cargo transportation network using automatic guided vehicles around Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands. It describes the system network, the transportation equipment, the kinds of order that could be specified and the kinds of decisions that could be made. The heuristics is presented with the results of the simulations performed. The paper represents a very interesting research, especially because the authors intend to improve it comparing the proposed heuristics to some other known heuristic methods such as local search, tabu search, genetic algorithms and so on. Anyway, the paper is a nice contribution of the quantitative methods in order to solve the real word optimization problems.
