It is an interesting problem to consider uniqueness of a decomposition of a polyhedron into the Cartesian product of lower dimensional factors. For example, it is known that a decomposition of a polyhedron into the Cartesian product of 1-dimensional factors is unique [see \textit{K. Borsuk}, Fundam. Math. 31, 137--148 (1938; Zbl 0019.28201)]. In this paper, the author studies the case of a decomposition of a 4-dimensional polyhedron into the product of 2-dimensional factors. In particular, it is proved that if a decomposition of a compact, connected, 4-dimensional polyhedron into the Cartesian product of 2-dimensional polyhedra is not unique, then in all different decompositions, one of the factors is homeomorphic to the same bundle of intervals over a graph.
