With a nontrivial discrete group \(G\) with neutral element \(e\), a 2-cocycle on \(G\) with values in the circle group \(T\) is a map \(u: G\times G\to T\) such that \(u(x,y) u(xy,z)= u(y,z) u(x,yz)\), \(x,y,z\in G\). The set of all 2-cocyles satisfying \(u(x,e)= u(e,x)= 1\) has been denoted by \(Z^2(G, T)\). A projective unitary representation \(U\) of \(G\) on a Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\) associated with some \(u\in Z^2(G, T)\) is a map from \(G\) into the group of unitaries on \({\mathcal H}\) such that \(U(x)U(y)= u(x,y) U(x,y)\), \(x,y\in G\). With two discrete groups \(A\) and \(B\) and \(\sigma: A\times B\to T\) a bilinear map, a triple \(\{V,W.{\mathcal H}\}\) is called a CCR-representation of \(\sigma\) whenever \(V\) and \(W\) are unitary representations of respectively \(A\) and \(B\) on \({\mathcal H}\) which satisfy the CCR-relation \(V(a) W(b)= \sigma(a,b) W(b) V(a)\) for all \(a\in A\), \(b\in B\). In this paper, the authors have initiated a study of infinite tensor products of projective unitary representations of a discrete group \(G\) with special attention to regular representations twisted by 2-cocycles and to projective representations associated with CCR-representations of bilinear maps. The results for a discrete group \(G\) have been exemplified in the concrete case where \(G\) is a finitely generated free abelian group. Finally, the authors have discussed an extension problem about product type actions on \(G\).
