The main results of this paper are an (apparently) new definition of linearly independent set families in a linear real space of order \(k\) (LRSk) and their relation to families of separating hyperplanes. This independence is understood as follows: families of \(k\) subsets of the LRSk have the property that any \(k\) points, one from each subset, are linearly independent. It is not related to the independence of the subsets of a finite basic set used in matroid theory. A typical example arising from robust multilinear regression: an independent set family consists of congruent narrow cones around the unit vectors of LRSk that are open and convex.
