    Let \(-D\) be equal to the discriminant of the imaginary quadratic field \(K= \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-D})\) and suppose that \(D\) is either odd or divisible by \(8\) and \(D> 4\). Let \(X_0\) be a grössencharacter of conductor \({\mathfrak f}:= (2\sqrt{-D}, D)\) such that \[ \chi_0((n))= \Biggl({-D\over n}\Biggr)\quad \text{and}\quad \chi_0((\alpha))= \pm\Biggl({\alpha\over |\alpha|}\Biggr) \] for, respectively, a natural integer \(n\) and an integer \(\alpha\) of \(K\), both prime to \({\mathfrak f}\). Let \(X\chi_k= \chi^{2k-1}_0\psi_d\), where \(d\) is a fundamental discriminant, prime to \(D\), and \(\psi_d\) denotes the lifting of the Kronecker symbol \(({d\over\cdot})\). Let \(W(\chi)\) be the root number in the functional equation satisfied by the \(L\)-function \(L(\chi, s)\), then \(W(\chi_k)= \pm 1\). Assuming that \[ |d|\ll_{\varepsilon, k} D^{{1\over 12}- \varepsilon},\quad \varepsilon> 0, \] the author proves that \(L(\chi_k,{1\over 2})\neq 0\) if \(W(\chi_k)= 1\) and \(L'(\chi_k,{1\over 2})\neq 0\) if \(W(\chi_k)= -1\).
