The authors give asymptotic formulas for sums of the type \(\sum_{x<n\leq x+h}f(n)\) (\(h\geq x^{7/12+\varepsilon}\)) for a class of multiplicative functions. In particular, this is true for the functions \(f(n) = z^{\omega(n)}, z^{\omega(n)}| \mu(n)| , 1/d_k(n)\) and \(nd(n)\). Here, as usual, \(\omega(n)\) denotes the number of distinct prime factors of \(n\), \(d_k(n)\) is the number of ways \(n\) can be written as a product of \(k\) factors (so that \(d_2(n) \equiv d(n)\) is the number of divisors of \(n\)). The number \(z\) is an arbitrary, but bounded complex number. The method of proof is by complex integration, as introduced in the work of \textit{K. Ramachandra} [Acta Arith. 31, 313--324 (1976; Zbl 0291.10034)], who proved a very general theorem for arithmetic functions generated by Dirichlet series which are product of powers of \(L\)-functions, their logarithms and derivatives. The authors also prove a general result from which they deduce asymptotic formulas for the specific functions mentioned above.
