The authors extend A. Connes's formula for the Hochschild class of the Chern character of a \((p,\infty )\)-summable spectral triple to the case in which the spectral triple's operator is affiliated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra, whose trace provides the context for the definition of summability. In light of the role of semifinite von Neumann algebras in noncommutative geometry, this result is a natural step in the program of \textit{A. Connes} [``Noncommutative geometry'' (Academic Press, San Diego, CA) (1994; Zbl 0818.46076)]. The authors' result is more general than the similar theorem of \textit{M-T. Benameur} and \textit{T. Fack} [``On von Neumann spectral triples'', arXiv math.KT/0012233]: the authors include the case \(p=1\), and, in the type \(\text{II} _{\infty}\) case, the authors do not require the hypothesis that the spectral triple's operator has bounded inverse.
