Let \(k\) be a field. Macaulay gave a necessary and sufficient condition for a function \(H : \mathbb N \to \mathbb N\) to be the Hilbert function of a certain graded \(k\)-algebra (or equivalently, a projective scheme over \(k\)). In the present paper, the author considers the Hilbert function of reduced \(0\)-dimensional projective schemes. \textit{A. V. Geramita, T. Harima} and \textit{Y. S. Shin} [Ill. J. Math. 45, No. 1, 1--23 (2001; Zbl 1095.13500)] introduced a class of reduced \(0\)-dimensional projective schemes, called \(k\)-configurations and they proved, if \(H\) is the Hilbert function of a reduced \(0\)-dimensional projective scheme, then there is a \(k\)-configuration whose Hilbert function is \(H\). The author generalizes this notion. Let \(D = d_1\), \dots, \(d_r\) be a sequence of positive integers and \(V = \text{Proj} (k[x_0, \dots, x_n]/(F_1, \dots, F_r))\) where \(F_1\), \dots, \(F_r\) are homogeneous polynomials such that \(d_i = \deg F_i\) and they form a regular sequence. The author defines the notion of \(k_D\)-configurations with respect to \(V\), which are \(0\)-dimensional subschemes of \(V\). If \(V = \mathbb P^n\), that is, \(D\) is an empty sequence, then the notion of \(k_D\)-configuration with respect to \(V\) coincides with one of \(k\)-configurations. The main result of this paper is a necessary and sufficient condition for a function \(H\) to be the Hilbert function of a \(k_D\)-configuration with respect to \(V\).
