The authors consider the Schrödinger operator \(H_{V}\equiv -\frac{1}{2}\Delta_{\mathbb H}+V\) on the Riemannian manifold \(\mathbb H\equiv \mathbb R\times ]0,+\infty[\) with a Riemannian metric. Here \(\Delta_{\mathbb H}\) is the Laplace-Beltrami operator \(\Delta_{\mathbb H}\equiv y^{2}(\partial_{x}^{2}+\partial_{y}^{2})\), and \(V\) is a scalar potential which satisfies some technical conditions and the limiting relation \[ \lim_{\lambda \to\infty}(2\pi)^{-2}\lambda^{-\gamma} \left| \left\{ (x,y;\xi,\eta)\in \mathbb H\times \mathbb R^{2}:\, \frac{y^2}{2}(\xi^2 +\eta^2 )+V(x,y)<\lambda \right\} \right| =C_{V} \] for some positive constants \(\gamma\), \(C_{V}\). Then the authors prove that the number of eigenvalues (counting the multiplicity) which are less than a real \(\lambda\) is asymptotic to \(C_{V}\lambda^\gamma\) as \(\lambda\) tends to infinity. The proof is based on estimates of the trace of the heat semigroup \(e^{-H_{V}t}\) and on an argument of B.~Simon. Finally, the authors exhibit an example.
