The author deals with a compact Kähler manifold with positive first Chern class, that is with a compact Fano manifold. The motivation of his work is to find an effective way for verifying the \(K\) stability for hypersurfaces. In general case, this is a problem harder than the problem to find an effective way for computing the Futaki invariant, because the \(K\) energy is the nonlinear version of the ``Futaki'' invariant. The technical difficulty is that the degeneration of an hypersurface under a one parameter subgroup is ``generically'' an algebraic cycle of multiplication greater than one. He overcomes the above difficulty in the case that the central fiber is of multiplicity greater than one. He gives an explicit formula for the \(K\) energy of smooth hypersurfaces of \(\mathbb C P^n\) and computes the limit of the derivative of the \(K\) energy in that case. In further discussions he studies the relations between the \(K\) stability and the Chow-Mumford stability for algebraic varieties.
