By using nonsmooth critical point theory, the authors prove the existence of a solution and the existence of two distinct solutions for the following second-order nonlinear periodic systems with a nonsmooth locally Lipschitz potential function \[ -(\| x'(t)\| ^{p-2}x'(t))'+g(t)\| x(t)\| ^{p-2}x(t)\in \partial j(t,x(t))\quad \text{ a.e. on } T\in[0,b], \] \[ x(0)=x(b),\quad x'(0)=x'(b), \quad 1<p<\infty, \] where the differential operator of the left-hand side is the vectorial \(p\)-Laplacian and \(\partial j\) denotes the generalized Clarke subdifferential. Next, they prove the existence of nontrivial homoclinic solutions (to zero) for the homoclinic problem in \({\mathbb R}^{N}\) corresponding to the above problem. In the last part of the paper, the authors study the scalar nonlinear and semilinear problem by using a generalized Landesman-Lazer-type condition.
