In the last thirty years, the theory of infinite-dimensional holomorphy has been developed by many mathematicians very intensively. The approximation property of holomorphic mappings on infinite-dimensional spaces plays an important role in this theory. The present paper is devoted to establishing the relations between the approximation property and the compact approximation property on \(E\) and the approximation property on the spaces of holomorphic mappings \(H(U,F)\) and bounded holomorphic mappings \(H^{\infty}(U,F)\), where \(E,F\) are locally convex spaces and \(U\) is the open unit ball in \(E\). More precisely, a locally convex space \(E\) is said to have the approximation property if for every convex compact and balanced subset \(K\) of \(E\) and every neighborhood of zero \(V\) in \(E\), there is a finite rank mapping \(T\in L(E,E)\) such that \(Tx-x\in V\) for all \(x\in K\). One of the main results of the paper asserts that a Banach space \(E\) has the approximation property if and only if \(G^{\infty }(U)\) has the approximation property, where \(G^{\infty }(U)\) is the predual to \(H^{\infty }(U,F).\) An analogous result is established for the compact approximation property as well.
