A theorem of \textit{S. E. Stonehewer} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 88, No. 1-3, 239-244 (1993; Zbl 0784.20012)] asserts that if \(A,B\) are finite nilpotent groups, if \(G=AB\) and if \(N\) is a minimal normal subgroup of \(G\), then either \(AN\) or \(BN\) is nilpotent. The authors prove (Theorem A) that the above result is true with supersoluble instead of nilpotent provided that \(A\) permutes with every subnormal subgroup of \(B\) and \(B\) permutes with every subnormal subgroup of \(A\). Several other results concerning products \(G=AB\) of supersoluble groups \(A,B\) and ensuring the supersolubility of \(G\) are obtained under similar permutability conditions imposed on the factors.
