Let \(L\) be a distributive lattice. It is known that the congruence lattice \(\text{Con}(L)\) of \(L\) is distributive and pseudocomplemented. A congruence relation \(\theta\in \text{Con}(L)\) is called skeletal, if \(\theta\in \theta^{**}\), where \(\theta^*\) means the pseudocomplement of \(\theta\) in \(\text{Con}(L)\). In addition, \(\theta\in \text{Con}(L)\) is called dense, if \(\theta^*\) is the identity relation. Let \(n\in L\). A convex sublattice \(J\) of \(L\) is called \(n\)-ideal of \(L\), if \(n\in J\). The authors generalize some results of \textit{W. H. Cornish} [Math. Nachr. 84, 219--228 (1978; Zbl 0425.06002)]. More precisely, they characterize (1) skeletal congruences on \(L\), (2) \(\theta(J)^*\) and \(\theta(J^*)\) for a given \(n\)-ideal \(J\) showing that both congruences have a common \(n\)-kernel, and (3) dense \(\theta(J)\) for some \(n\)-ideals \(J\).
