Let \(F\) be the Fourier transform and \({\mathcal{PW}}=F^{-1}(L^2[-\pi, \pi])\) be the Paley--Wiener space. The author gives an analogous of Bonsally's theorem for Toeplitz operators \(T_\phi\) acting in \({\mathcal{PW}}\)-spaces. Denote \(W(t)=\sqrt{\pi}(t+i)\) and let \[ h_w (t)= \sqrt{\frac{2\pi\Im w}{\sinh(2\pi\Im w)}}\frac{\sin(\pi (t-\overline{w}))}{\pi(t-\overline{w})} \] be an associated normalized reproducing kernel of \({\mathcal{PW}}\) with an appropriate interpretation when \(\Im w=0.\) The main results contain the following theorems. Theorem 1. Suppose that \(\phi\in WL^2(\mathbb R)\). Then \(T_\phi\) is bounded if and only if it is bounded on \(\{h_w: w\in \mathbb C\}.\) Moreover, there exists a universal constant \(M\) such that \(\| T_\phi\| \leq M\sup\{\| T_\phi h_w\| : w\in \mathbb C\}.\) Theorem 2. Suppose that \(\phi\in WL^2(\mathbb R)\). Then \(T_\phi\) is compact if and only if \(\lim\limits_{| w| \to\infty}\| T_\phi h_w\| =0.\)
