Summary: In this paper a relationship between the Ohno relation for multiple zeta values and multiple polylogarithms are discussed \[ \zeta(k_ 1,k_ 2,\dots,k_ n)= \sum_ {0<m_ 1<m_ 2<\dots<m_ n} {1 \over {m_ 1^ {k_ 1} \cdots m_ n^ {k_ n}}} \] [see Y. Ohno, J. Number Theory 74, No. 1, 39--43 (1999; Zbl 0920.11063)]. First we introduce generating functions for the Ohno relation, and investigate their properties. We show that there exists a subfamily of the Ohno relation which recovers algebraically its totality. This is proved through analysis of Mellin transform of multiple polylogarithms. Furthermore, this subfamily is shown to be converted to the Landen connection formula for multiple polylogarithms by inverse Mellin transform.
