The book having nine chapters reviews fundamental physical and mathematical problems of the Vavilov-Cherenkov effect of media. Here the readers could find a discussion of all basic problems of the Vavilov-Cherenkov effect and of synchrotron radiation. The second chapter is devoted to the well-known Tamm problem and the Tamm-Frank theory of the Vavilov-Cherenkov effect. In the third chapter, radiation of a charge moving non-uniformly in a dispersion-free medium is investigated. This chapter begins with the statement of the general physical problem of the charged point-like particle motion inside the medium and discusses the relativistic acceleration and deceleration effects. Analytical problems and numerical simulation of unbounded charge motion are studied in the fourth chapter. Chapter 5 deals with the evaluation of the radiation intensities taking into account the effects of accelerated motion. Some very useful analytical expressions for radiation intensities are given. The sixth chapter is devoted to studying perspectives of the radiation arising from electric, magnetic, and toroidal dipoles moving in a medium. New and old analytical solutions are discussed. How the Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation affects the charge motion is investigated in chapter 7. Chapter 8 is discussing the problems of synchrotron radiation. The last chapter 9 gives experimental results of the Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation investigations. This book may be useful for advanced graduate students and for professional scientists, both experimentalists and theoreticians.
