An integral domain \(R\) is said to have the \(t\)\#-property (or is called a \(t\)\#-domain) if \(\bigcap_{M\in {\mathcal M}_1} R_M \neq \bigcap_{M \in {\mathcal M}_2} R_M\), for any distinct subsets \({\mathcal M}_1\) and \({\mathcal M}_2\) of the set of the maximal \(t\)-ideals of \(R\). The authors investigate this ``\(t\)-generalization'' of the \#-condition introduced by \textit{R. W. Gilmer} [J. Algebra 4, 331--340 (1966; Zbl 0146.26205)]. The purpose is to extend outside of the Prüfer domain case many of the results obtained by \textit{R. W. Gilmer} and \textit{W. J. Heinzer} [J. Algebra 7, 281--302 (1967; Zbl 0156.04304)]. Among several other results, this paper contains various characterizations of the \(t\)\#-domains and the proof of the fact that the polynomial ring of a \(t\)\#-domain is again a \(t\)\#-domain. Furthermore the authors investigate the overrings of the \(t\)\#-domains, obtaining very satisfactory results in the context of Prüfer \(v\)-multiplication domains.
