An Abelian Singer pair consists of a commutative Hopf algebra \(A\), a cocommutative Hopf algebra \(B\), such that \(A\) is a \(B\)-module algebra, \(B\) is an \(A\)-comodule algebra, and such that two other compatibility relations hold. Cohomology of an Abelian Singer pair can be introduced [see \textit{W. M. Singer}, J. Algebra 21, 1-16 (1972; Zbl 0269.16011)]; Sweedler cohomology [see \textit{M. E. Sweedler}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 133, 205-239 (1968; Zbl 0164.03704)] is a special case. In this paper, the authors study the dual notion of Abelian matched pairs, consisting of pairs of cocommutative Hopf algebras, which are module algebras over each other. A cohomology theory corresponding to Abelian matched pairs is introduced. The Kac sequence for matched pairs of Abelian groups, or finite-dimensional Lie algebras can be generalized to this setting. Under certain finiteness conditions, there is a bijective correspondence between Abelian matched pairs and Abelian Singer pairs, and then the corresponding cohomology theories are isomorphic. In the final section, the second cohomology group of some Abelian matched pairs is described.
