    In the second half of the 19th century, mathematics in Italy experienced a ``renaissance''; the names of Cremona, Brioschi or Beltrami are still well known today. In this article, the author deals with the situations of Battaglini in Rome, Gerbaldi in Palermo, and Bianchi in Pisa, and shows that these centers contitute research schools in the sense of \textit{K. Parshall} [Hist. Math. 31, No. 3, 263--278 (2004; Zbl 1061.01018)].
